Eighty-eight Feathers Icon

Watercolor and Acrylic on Paper - 19" x 14" (center piece), 19" x 6" (top and bottom pieces)

This Icon is my attempt at painting three separate but integrated pieces. The main painting in the center contains many patterns and motifs which are echoed by the top and bottom paintings. The paintings stand as a unit, or can be hung separately as individual paintings, which is how they are displayed in my home.

Eagle feathers have always had a special significance in native American mythology. The number four also is important, symbolizing the four directions. Forty-four is doubly significant, and twice that (88) even more so.
