Blue Sky Kachina

Watercolor and Acrylic on Paper - 18" x 22"

This was my first attempt to paint a non-abstract piece. A "kachina" is a religious symbol used by the Hopi Indians. I wanted to give it the appearance of a doll, but still keep it suffused with spirituality.

A kachina is suspended halfway between heaven and earth, a connection to the spirit world. I wanted my painting to be similarly suspended between the abstract and the tangible.
