Just east of Flagstaff is a natural wonder not seen in very many places on our planet. Approximately 75,000 years ago, a large nickel-iron meteor plunged into the earth's atmosphere and survived the fiery trip to the ground. In what was undoubtedly an unimaginable, indescribable explosion, the above crater (as seen from the air) was blasted into the serene, flat landscape. Ejecta has been found over three miles from the impact point. The photo below is from the crater rim.
